Mayor Firestone has declared a Snow Emergency in West York effective Friday, February 5th at 3:00 pm until Monday, February 8th at 5:00 pm. This includes the following streets:
Market Street
Highland Avenue
King Street from Highland Avenue to Hoke Street
Hoke Street to the West Manchester Border
Limited parking is available at the Reliance Fire Company after 10:00 pm on Friday
Additional Information:
Please make sure that fire hydrants are shoveled out on your block. This would greatly help the fire department which is struggling to stay dug out so they can respond to any emergencies.
Also if anyone has a modern furnace which vents out the side wall of their house, usually it is vented with PVC pipe which elbows downward, you may experience your furnace shutting down. If the snow is covering the vent pipe, the furnace is equipped with a safety which will shut the furnace off because the furnace cannot exhaust to the outside. You need to keep the furnace pipes free of snow or you will not have heat.
Also, check any dryer vents to make sure they are clear to prevent Carbon Monoxide poisoning.
You have 12 hours after the snow has stopped to clear a path on your sidewalk or a ticket will be issued.
Please check on your neighbors, especially the elderly, and help out where you can.
On February 15th at 6:00 pm please join us at the West York Borough Hall for more information from the York County Planning Commission on the proposed Weaving Mill Project. Questions can be addressed at that time. This is an open forum and anyone is welcome to attend. Please feel free to ask your neighbors and friends to join us so that you may have more information on the project.
A chance to own a piece of West York History.
The old green street signs will be for sale until February 15th. They are $15 each and are on a 1st come, 1st served basis. Please contact the Borough Office for more information.

Pedestrian Safety Rules!

Working together with volunteers and members of our Borough’s staff such as Police Chief Keith Albright and The Highway Department’s John Love seen in the photo and with the help of many more, we have kicked off and started painting our Borough's crosswalks and curbs. We hope to see you the next time and add volunteers in this great effort to increase public safety.
Did you know that you must yield to pedestrians in crosswalks? We added helpful reminders on our busy roads. Take notice to the yellow Yield-to-Pedestrian signs. We added the famous bulldog paw prints to help encourage our youth to use our crosswalks and add community identity to our neighborhoods.
Taking a Bite Out of Crime!

Working with local business leaders to raise money, we instituted West York's first Police bike patrol. The donations collected paid for the bulk of the equipment needed and purchase of the police-grade bikes used on patrol. This program has increased police visibility and has already worked to reduce crime throughout our neighborhoods. Training was provided to our Borough’s police officers at no charge by the York County Sheriff’s Department. Don't forget to say hello when you see them in your neighborhood.
